Air Force Major Arrested at U.S. Capitol After Calling for Trump and Vance Impeachment
Major Jason Watson arrested Capitol impeachment
An active-duty U.S. Air Force officer was taken into custody by Capitol Police on Wednesday following a public demonstration on the steps of the U.S. Capitol. Major Jason Watson, a logistics readiness officer currently stationed in Poland, appeared in uniform to call for the impeachment, conviction, and removal of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
The protest was organized by the Removal Coalition and included a press conference attended by Representative Al Green. While demonstrators are permitted in certain areas of the Capitol grounds, public protesting on the House steps is prohibited unless accompanied by a member of Congress. Police reported that after the accompanying lawmaker departed the area, Watson refused multiple lawful orders to vacate the steps, leading to his arrest for crowding, obstructing, and incommoding.
During his address, Watson cited concerns regarding the administration’s military actions—specifically unauthorized conflict with Iran—and other executive policies he alleged violated the Constitution.
The Department of the Air Force has since confirmed it is investigating the incident. In a statement, officials emphasized that military personnel are expected to uphold standards of professionalism and comply with policies governing political activities and the wear of the uniform. Watson was not held in custody following the arrest, and a legal defense fund established on his behalf has reportedly raised significant public donations.
