US ambassador Dorothy Shea on Qatar strike and Hamas pursuit

US Ambassador to the United Nations, Dorothy Shea, has described the recent strike on Qatar as “unfortunate,” stressing that it does not advance the strategic goals of either the United States or Israel. Speaking during a United Nations Security Council session, she clarified that while the strike was regrettable, the broader objective of pursuing Hamas remains a priority for Washington.

Shea emphasized that the US government considers dismantling Hamas’s military and financial networks a central goal in its Middle East policy. She noted that such actions are vital for long-term regional stability and for safeguarding American and allied interests.

The ambassador, however, underscored that Washington does not view the strike in Qatar as aligned with this mission. Instead, she urged restraint and diplomacy to prevent the conflict from expanding into new territories that could destabilize international relations.

Her comments come at a sensitive time when global attention is fixed on the Middle East crisis. While reiterating the United States’ unwavering commitment to Israel’s security, Shea’s statement also highlighted the delicate balance Washington is attempting to maintain as tensions rise.
