Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Wins Second Straight NBA MVP
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander second straight MVP
Oklahoma City Thunder superstar guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has reportedly secured the NBA Most Valuable Player award for the second consecutive season. According to a Sunday report from ESPN insider Shams Charania, the 27-year-old playmaker earned the prestigious honor following another utterly dominant regular-season campaign.
The historic selection elevates the Hamilton, Ontario native into an incredibly exclusive group of basketball legends. Gilgeous-Alexander is now the 14th player in league history to capture back-to-back MVP trophies. He also joins Hall of Fame point guard Steve Nash as the only Canadian players to achieve this monumental feat.
The prestigious individual accolade comes after Gilgeous-Alexander completely controlled the league from start to finish. The Oklahoma City Thunder guard posted spectacular individual statistics while maintaining elite efficiency throughout the 2025-26 regular season. He averaged an astonishing 31.1 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game.
He also shot an incredibly efficient 55.3 percent from the field and 38.6 percent from beyond the three-point arc. His exceptional ability to run the offense without relying on isolation play solidified his status as a dominant superstar.
What truly separated Gilgeous-Alexander from other elite candidates was his ability to translate individual brilliance into team success. Under his direct leadership, the Thunder finished with the best record in basketball at 64-18. This mark allowed Oklahoma City to claim the Maurice Podoloff Trophy for the second consecutive year.
They became the first franchise in league history to earn the regular-season crown in back-to-back seasons. The superstar guard raised his level of play despite injuries across the roster. This effort guided his squad toward another championship run.
The newly crowned MVP has seamlessly carried his regular-season brilliance directly into the ongoing postseason.
The NBA playoff bracket has seen the Thunder look entirely unstoppable through their opening matchups. Oklahoma City recently finalized a dominant second-round destruction of the Los Angeles Lakers to advance in the Western Conference.
Gilgeous-Alexander has elevated his postseason production by averaging 29.1 points and 7.1 assists through the playoffs. With the MVP award safely secured, the focus shifts to securing a second consecutive Larry O’Brien Trophy for the franchise.
