A former social studies teacher at Orchard Valley Middle School in Washington Township, New Jersey, was arrested and charged on Thursday, March 26, 2026, for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a student.
Ashley A. Fisler, 36, faces a total of eight felony counts, including six counts of first-degree sexual assault of a minor, one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and one count of second-degree official misconduct.
According to official reports from the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, the allegations surfaced earlier this year when the victim, who is now an adult, reported the details of the 2021 relationship to local law enforcement.
The criminal complaint details a series of unlawful sexual encounters that reportedly occurred both inside Fisler’s classroom and within her personal vehicle while she was employed by the Washington Township school district.
Investigators from the Gloucester County Special Victims and High-Tech Crimes Units were able to corroborate the victim’s account through a forensic analysis of text messages between the two, which allegedly confirmed the sexual nature of their interactions.
According to Fox 29 Philadelphia, Fisler taught in the district from 2014 until June 2023 but is no longer employed as a teacher in Washington Township or any other jurisdiction.
Fisler currently faces severe legal penalties if convicted, with each first-degree sexual assault charge carrying a maximum potential sentence of 20 years in state prison. The second-degree charges for child endangerment and official misconduct each carry a maximum of 10 years.
Prosecutors emphasized that the investigation remains active and have encouraged anyone with additional information regarding Fisler’s conduct to contact the Washington Township Police Department. As the local community reacts to the breach of trust at Orchard Valley Middle School, Fisler is expected to appear in court for a detention hearing in the coming days.
