England Under-21 winger Jonathan Rowe is set to seal a high-profile transfer to Olympique de Marseille after Bologna reached an agreement in principle. The Italian side have reportedly agreed personal terms with the 22-year-old and are now negotiating a fee with Marseille.
Rowe has endured a rocky spell at Marseille. After permanently joining the French club last summer for around €15 million from Norwich City, he struggled to secure a regular spot—starting in just a handful of games despite making around 30 appearances and contributing several goals and assists. His performances, however, included a memorable extra-time winner in the U21 European Championship final, showcasing his potential on the big stage.
Tensions escalated following a dressing room altercation with teammate Adrien Rabiot, which resulted in both being suspended and placed on the transfer list. This fallout has accelerated moves to offload Rowe. Marseille are seeking about €20 million for the transfer, though Bologna’s offer is believed to be around €15 million plus a percentage of any future sale. A compromise seems likely as negotiations progress.
If completed, the move will provide Rowe with a fresh start and help Bologna bolster their attacking options, while Marseille recoup funds for other summer moves. Norwich City, his original club, will also benefit from a sell-on clause built into the deal.
