Former Florida Police Officer Tiffany Lee Griffith Charged with Aggravated Child Abuse After Hotel Pool Incident
A former Florida law enforcement officer is facing serious criminal charges after authorities alleged she forcibly held a young child underwater at a luxury resort pool. Tiffany Lee Griffith was arrested by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office following an incident at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Kissimmee on December 19, 2025. The thirty-six-year-old resident of Fort Myers has been officially charged with aggravated child abuse after investigators reviewed witness statements and security footage from the scene. According to the arrest affidavit the confrontation began while several children were playing in the resort’s pool area during the busy holiday season.
The conflict reportedly started when a six-year-old boy allegedly dunked the son of the suspect underwater during active play. Witnesses told deputies that Griffith responded by entering the water and approaching the young boy in a confrontational manner. The former officer is accused of placing both of her hands on the shoulders of the six-year-old and forcibly submerging him for several seconds. The victim eventually emerged from the water visibly shaken and suffering from a nosebleed. After the physical encounter Griffith reportedly engaged in a verbal dispute with the mother of the boy before leaving the pool deck.
During her initial court appearance Griffith became emotional as the details of the incident were presented to the judge. Her defense team argued that she acted instinctively to protect her seven-year-old son who has autism and is non-verbal. Griffith told investigators that she believed her child was in danger of drowning and that her actions were a reactionary attempt to ensure his safety. However the prosecution presented body camera footage and witness accounts that suggested the force used was excessive and retaliatory rather than protective. The presiding judge acknowledged that while the situation may have been tense the response appeared to be a significant overreaction to children playing in a pool.

During her tenure in law enforcement she operated under the name Tiffany Lee Viola and was frequently involved in community outreach programs. Ironically her professional background included delivering educational presentations to high school students regarding the dangers of bullying and the legal consequences of aggressive behavior. She was even recognized as an employee of the quarter in 2016 for her contributions to the department. This professional history has drawn significant public attention to the case as community members react to a former officer being accused of the very behaviors she once campaigned against.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the security footage reviewed by detectives aligns with the testimonies provided by witnesses at the resort. The state has indicated that it will continue to pursue the felony charge of aggravated child abuse given the physical evidence of the injury to the child. Griffith was released from the Osceola County Jail after posting a twenty-thousand-dollar bond while she awaits her next scheduled court date in early 2026. Legal experts suggest that her previous career in law enforcement will likely be a focal point during the upcoming trial proceedings.
