Senate Leader Schumer Warns Trump Is Pushing U.S. Toward Foreign War with Venezuela

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on November 29, 2025 accused President Donald Trump of steering the United States perilously close to a foreign war with Venezuela. Schumer condemned Trump’s recent decision to declare Venezuela’s airspace “closed in its entirety” and subsequent military escalations as “reckless actions” that could provoke a costly conflict. He argued that only Congress has the constitutional authority to declare war — and that no such authorization has been granted for Venezuela. He added that many Americans are weary of “endless foreign wars” that drain resources and cost lives, urging lawmakers from both parties to unite and restore war-declaring power to Congress.

The call comes amid reports of a massive U.S. naval deployment to the Caribbean and growing pressure on Caracas over alleged drug trafficking. Schumer demanded a classified Senate briefing on the build-up and potential military plans against Venezuela, warning that current actions do not reflect a coherent “America First” policy but rather an open slide toward conflict.
